"But 2 O'Clock has come again It's time to leave this paradise Hope the chip shop isn't closed 'Cause their pies are really nice I'll eat it in the taxi cue standing in someone else's spew Wish I had lipstick on my shirt Instead of piss stains on my shoes."

There are many things that I take pleasure from this blog being one of them and I
seem to have kept it up for a year. Thanks for all the comments and the feedback. I'm hoping that along the way I've made you laugh even when I don't feel like like
laughing myself. (Which, sadly, happens a lot lately) I started this as something to do all those months back as I needed to have somewhere to put all my music that I wished to share. I think that it's my frustration at not being a DJ inna peel stylee. After all the guardian angel of this blog (as I like to think of him) was all there was to broadcasting. In keeping with his spirit the posts I've made have been both eclectic and rambling. I just wish I'd have my own version of the pig, but then as Susan Ivanova from Babylon 5 says "All love is unrequited."
Other things I take pleasure in are the smell of a new book or just a tatty old
dusty tome from out of a charity shop. The only proviso I say with that is the
book has to be good unlike Richard Eddington's Sent From Coventry : The chequered past of Two Tone. It truly is an awful tome and I'm only finishing it out of spite, I paid for it but I'm glad it wasn't full price. It waxes and wanes all
over the place via total irrelavances of his own band and/or life. Mostly the interview text comes from websites and he fails to know that the original source material is from BBC Radio documentaires. He mentions that the Beat single 'Mirror in the bathroom' is about a man who talks to his mirror. So it's nothing about Narcissism then? Later in the book he mentions that the Madness single 'Shut Up' features Mike Barson's piano ... well no shit they all do. Every bloody song featured Mike Barson's piano at least until he left that is. Anyway save yourself the money and don't buy it. Instead track down the best book about two tone that I've read The Two Tone Story by George Marshall. Ebay would be your best bet I would've thought, but if you are good I'll scan it at some point for you all. In the meantime you'll have to make do with the Two Tone Trail, which I've just bought via ebay, just in case you ever fancy a trip to glamourous Coventry and why wouldn't you? It's a book about the size of my old fanzine but with added production values and no photocopied glue and ink thumbprints on the edge of the page.

I did a nice thing this week. I informed BBC6 Music dj Tom Robinson that Mr Peel had said nice thing about him when he featured on his festive fifty. He asked for a copy of the mp3 so after much searching and swearing because I'd not catalogue the last 100 data dvds of my downloads. I had to install Audio Cleaning Lab and edit it then email it for him. Well it turns out he'd never heard it and was very chuffed (well who wouldn't be?) I just hope this is like 'My Name Is Earl' and good things happen to me but I know they won't.
Anyway tonight to celebrate the first of hopefully many years of this blog I've
uploaded several things for your delight.

Firstly we have Jimi Hendrix Live at the Royal Albert Hall from god knows when but it took me a while to repost for people on the skafunkrastapunk so I thought I'd let you have it too. Then we have The radio braodcast version of Mr John Peel's 1983 Festive fifty which is around two hours long. Also I've upped a punk compilation or two called Jubilee Punk 2 & 3. Plus another half decent Mojo cover disk this time 'Beyond Punk'. This features the best from the post punk era (late seventies early eighties and for some reason they've put some newer groups on there too. I'll also post some compilations by the Who and the Jam both two diskers. Also some of my latest John Peel Radio Shows that I've uploaded.

"It's well past midnight as I lie in a semi conscious state I dream of people fighting me, without any reason I can see."

Jesus I'm bored, I've sat and watched the Brazilian Grand prix apart from the crashes it was as dull as the whole day on UKTV History, which is eight hours of David Attenborough documentaries repeated three times. Now I like the natural history but just not all day, especially as I keep seeing all these animals with the mating displays and I keep identifying with the one that doesn't get chosen. Maybe it's just the way I feel at the moment, but I guarantee that if I get reincarnated I'll be the Wildebeest that doesn't get any and is one of the first to get eaten by a croc whilst minding his own business drinking at the lake edge. I'd be there talking to other wildebeest with a nice cup of tea and a biscuit waffling on about the price of serengeti grass these days and the fact that "The council haven't yet built a bridge on this site of the Ulumumby bumbly river, it's just not on what do we pay our council tax for anyway? When all they do is tell us there's a drout on and we can't even water the petunias in our own garden. I've a good mind to write to the Daily Mail about it, it's political carrectness gone mad and is probably the fault of illigal immigrants etc etc." when all of a sudden a bloody great crocodile snaps it's mouth around my neck spilling my tea and making my chocolate hob nob snap of into the cup. "oh that's glub bloody typical" I'd say "That's all I need glub glub." "Only doing me job mate" the croc will reply, which of course will be no comfort to yours truly. "I didn't ask to be a crocodile, I'm just following the family 'istory. Me farver was a croc, an' Is farver was a croc, and me farver's farver's farver was a croc. It's me naychur innit?""you need a mint mate glub glub." I'd sayin my defiant stance as I went down for the third time. "Nah tha's not very nice is it geezah? the croc retorts, "tha's a bit personal that is. Not very nice at all.""A bit personal glub?" I'd ask "A bit personal? Listen mate glub you were the one who without so much as a 'by your leave' glub shot out of the water grabbed me around the neck glub and spilt my tea, broke my mug, snapped my last glub chocolate hob nob off into the brew and above all else you interrupted a nice conversation I was having with a bit of crumpet glub. I was in there. So you won't mind if I don't apologise glub." I'd be in one of my sarcastic moods by now having swallowed the contents of a river whose mix was water, mud and wildebeest poo in equal quantities."All I'm sayin' mush." replied the croc "is that I have feelin's awright? Besides I've seen that one she's a slapper look she's off with your mate, you know that one with the tattoos and the nice car all the things you haven't got.""You mean glub he's got a huge dick too?" I'd blurt out it bitter disapointment."Well, erm, I err didn't look to closely um, not the side me breads buttered on mate you know?" The croc was embarrassed and felt remorse for his actions. "Look mate go on off ya go everyone needs a bit of a break now and then go on I'll tell everyone you escaped. You know make you look good""No no you go on bite me neck I don't want to live anymore, not now Deidre has gone off with someone else." I'd by now be throwing myself at the crocodile as buses to jump under are rare in the middle of Africa."Ptui" He'd spit "No, go away I'll get the lame wildebeest over there minding his own business. Look I've just remembered I'm a vegetarian" He'd protest whilst backing away raising and waving his open palms. "No you aren't who ever heard of a vegetarian croodile?" I'd say whilst placing my neck in his mouth "Go on give it a good and strong bite a real chomper mmmm yum yum wildebeest, you like wildebeest it's good for you. Here comes the wildebeest aeroplane open wide "nnneeeooooowwww" . "Gerrrowddofit" The croc has quite gone off the idea of a wildebeest lunch. Other crocs are standing at the bar agog at the shennigans going on and are frozen jaws
open and wide eyed in astonishment. After the afternoon of me throwing myself into the jaws of the reptile. The voice over of Sir David Attenborough would say " Here along the banks of the Ulumumby bumbly river we see the rare sight of a suicidal wildebeest throwing himself at the mercy of the crocodiles and the croc doesn't seem to be interested. It's hard to understand what goes on in the minds of these creatures. Perhaps the fact that he has a small set of genitals was the catalist? At which point I'd jump up and say defiantly " It's because the water's cold." Before resuming my fucked up life and death struggle.

And on a more sane and less imaginary note here's tonight's posts. Firstly we have the Style Council Live from the back catalogues of Mr Paul Weller. Followed by Bad Manners it's an audio rip of the Don't Knock the Baldheads DVD and then we have a Mojo Magazine compilation of Garage bands from the sixties which is worth a download and playing loudly.

"Knock me down I get right back up again, come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man."

I'm beginning to believe that the Budhists are right and that I'm paying for misdemeanours in a previous life. Mind you I think I may have been a German Panzer commander or somesuch to rate this kind of bullshit ridden life. It's not good at the moment as you may tell. I'm too pooped even to rant about shit. Not even the incredible unbeleiveable bullshit from Messers Bush and B Liar on the evening news is enough to rile me at the moment. I'm overcome with this kind of ennui which will lift soon. A friend of mine suggested that I should give up with the women, well I can honestly say that i'm not going to turn into one of those homosexualists. For a start I can't dress right, I don't like musical theatre and I can't really abide my own naughty bits let alone anyone else's.
Maybe I'm aiming too high instead of the beautiful women? Maybe I should just resign myself to waking up with the warthogs? I know I'm certainly no oil painting (unless you count Picasso), but I'm not bad looking ... somedays. I'm teetotal, I don't smoke, I'm good with kids (mainly because I'm still one myself?), I'm generous, I don't much care for going out with 'the lads', I would never even think of sleeping around, I cook, I clean the bath out and I even put the toilet seat down. So why do women always go for the other gits?

Anyway enough moaning for now tonight's music is The Best of From Devo, Rip It Up And Start Again (Postpunk 78-84) which is a companion album to the book by Simon Reynolds, if you've never read it them do yourself a favour and get it from Amazon or Ebay. Also I've upped a copy of Tighten Up Volume 1 with a whole albums worth of extra tracks as well. Hope you enjoy all the wonderful music.

"You're a boy and i'm a girl, But you know you can lean on me. And I don't have no fear, I'll take on any man here. Who says that's not the way it should be."

I think I served Santa Claus today. A tall man with a white beard red trousers and a scandinavian accent asked for my assistance which I was only too pleased to accept as I have my eyes on a particularly nice 42" Plasma screen in Currys in the town centre, I wonder if Santa's elves can knock up a quick large screen HDTV? Or has technology not reached the North Pole? It would be nice to get something nice in a stocking (oh no I won't mention anyone in particular). I should be in a better financial postiton this year to really buy all those little presents for everyone ... and more than a few for me. Well I deserve it I feel it'll make me happy and that will make my workmates happy as then I don't make everyone else miserable when I enter the canteen in my sack cloth and ashes yelling "woe, woe and thrice woe."
Anyway tonight's music is the latest John Peel Cash in album Right Time Wrong Speed' with many of the best (or rather most popular) tracks from 1977 - 1987 all the usual people are on there as youd expect check out the track listing on
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ . Also I've put up Madness' Madstock album from the first gig of that series. You know when the fat old men took to the stage suffering from alzheimer's and dropsy etc. Bouncing around the stage and causing and earthquake in North London, I was there it's the fastest I've ever moved as I seemed to go from where the cameras were to the stage front some 100 yards in between the words "Hey" and "You". The one surviving photo is the one posted above incidentally the stage is to the left and it was the original way I was facing but this is taken inbetween the aforementioned words and I'm being spun around by the other 35,ooo people present(the whole world's against me) hence the blurry trees in the background, shortly after this I was upside down underneath everyone else. If only my camera and/or head hadn't have been stood on I'd have photos and/or memories of the gig instead of just the t shirts. Anyway enjoy the gig and I'm off because writing this I seem to have reached a new plateau of bitter and twistedness. If I'm not careful I'll lose all those lovely Upsetter fans.

"Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.Shine on you crazy diamond."

It's a good job I don't drink you know? What a shitty week it's been first of all I
actually had to turn up to work and then I have to stay there for 8 hours a day. Then I check my lottery numbers to find that I'd missed five out of six by one number each. On top of all that apparently 'The Knees' has found someone (else not me) so that's that. So here I am in my darkened room listening to Leonard Cohen, Morrissey and Joy Division the world's oldest teenager. Normally I'd be stuffing my face in remorse but not this time this time I'm on a real low. Can't be bothered to eat and I'll waste away to a measily 15 and a half stone. Oh where's me book of remorseful poetry? Alas and alack frilly shirts and ashen faced me dressed all in black ... er, well I always dress in black (it's the new black). Not even the usual practice of drawing money out of the account and thrusting it into the hands of my vinyl pusher will help my mood. I'm so deppressed I'm going to watch Eastenders to cheer myself up. (No, things are never that bad.) Back to being Eeyore I suppoose?
Well my trip to the town center was rather fruitful and will result in mega posts in the next week or so. I bought Devo - Hot Potatoes Best Of, John Peel Right Time Wrong Speed, Tighten Up Volume 1 + Extra disk, Rip It Up and Start Again Postpunk 78-84 the soundtrack to the book. Also I got Blur's Starshaped dvd and Volumes 1 & 2 of The Old Grey Whistle Test, so guess who's going to be a busy little bunny? I wish I was enjoying other bunny attributes ... sigh. Damn that's depressed me again. Also coming up in the near future we have The Tube dvd rip and Morrissey's Oy Esteban! Now I'm off to mope. Whilst you enjoy The Specials - Rock Goes To College a good quality gig from 1979 what I ripped for you. You see even with my heart broken in a million pieces I still think of others ... whadda guy I am ... even if I do say it myself ... which I have to because no one else does ... right sniff sniff I'm off ... no don't worry about me ... sniffle I'll be alright. You just enjoy the gig.

"I thought you'd listen to my reasoning, but now I see you don't hear a thing. Tried to make you see how it's got to be."

If there really was a God of any sort of description then I'd be either going steady with 'The Knees' (see previous posts for details) or sleeping with Melanie Sykes. Also Russel Brand, Chris Moyles and that annoying twat Justin Lee Roberts (The beardy loud west country one off the tv) would have fallen off a cliff and John Peel would still be gracing our airwaves with music you love and music you hate. Can it really have been have been 2 years since Mr Peel died? I remember being shocked when I first heard the news and more moved than I had been for many other celebrities dying. I found that along with a great dj there was a large hole left in British broadcasting that has not and possibly never will be filled. It wasn't just a case of his talent for providing this country with music because besides his earlier career in the States and on Pirate radio in the 60's he also made shows for most of northern Europe.
Tonight I've uploaded several shows from a wide period of his Radio one career to show the breadth of his musical tastes. It's a mark of the man that his wide musical spectrum and rambling, often mumbly style was loved the world over. At one point I had a friend in the South of France (Bonjour Raymone Ma petite fleur) and a friend in Mexico city (Hola Yara Como estas?) all listening to Peel and discussing the show as it went out. It was mind boggling for an old fella like me to try and fathom the distances involved and quite frankly I nearly fell out of my chair doing so. I was lucky enough to be mentioned on air by Mr Peel and have them in my mp3 collection, even at one point suggesting a band he'd not played and he kicked his box under the desk saying thay they may well be in there he just didn't have the time to find out yet and seeing his office on documentary once or twice I'm not suprised in the least that he couldn't get around to listening to it all. Even if I wasn't mentioned on air a couple of times either he or his assistant would take the time to answer a query I had about tracks played. I remember often that he'd get a request for a specific track and he'd send the Pig (his wife Sheila) out to the garage or shed or what ever it was at Peel Acres to get the desired track regardless of the disruption to the running order. It was this warmth and general niceness that endeared him to so many I feel. I couldn't make up my mind as to which Peel related tracks or albums or Peel sessions to upload so I opted for some shows instead at least that way you get more for your money some of the shows are two hours long and contain fantastic music. Hope you enjoy the music and the remember a great DJ.

Happy Peel Day from Me here at Upsetter Towers.

"Hey you with the pretty face, Welcome to the human race A celebration Mr. Blue Sky's Up there waitin' and today Is the day we've waited for."

You know I think the world's against me I really do. I've got this regular place that I stand at my busstop to come home. Before I went away on my week off the poster on the side I stood said "If your waistline is bigger than this you are in danger of diabetes". I know that I'm a bit of a bloater so I don't really need any reminding athankyew. Now it's for the film 'The Devil wears Prada' so now it just reads 'The Devil' and then my 'formerly fat and newly demonic arse stood there. What's next? A poster for preparation H? A Syphyllus clinic? Vote CONservative? The whole world's against me.
Oh well another few weeks and I'll be debt free for the first time in 16 years so I suppose it's all yin and yang really? Maybe I should do bad things? You know like an anti-Earl Hickey? I've already told some old git that the electric lightbulbs are around the back of my department next to the gas and water lightbulbs. I must stop morphing into Basil Fawlty. But you know if the busstops are against you what chance do you have in life? Anyway my theory (by Anne Elk) is already bearing fruit as no sooner had that happened I got called to the security office as they were divvying up the unclaimed lost property, (hence the Nirvana album 'In Utero' being posted.) It was either that or a couple of boxes of Strepsils and a box of pile cream.
Tonight's post is going to be a biggy due to the fact that I've been offline for a while due to computer problems (Fecking reinstalling windows mumble grumble) and the video card has gone back as it's a gyp. Bloody thing doesn't work on either mine or my mate's PC so I'll get the money back and go and spend the £60 down the local record emporium. Job's a good 'un.
Anyway here's the music for tonight a compilation that I've found that used to be permanently in the car radio when we were all young dumb and full of cum. This Is Ska one of the finest compilations to ever come out of Telstar records. It was a toss up between this one and the next album in tonight's post as to which one would get played on the way to some Norfolk pub or other. Mainly in Simon's Ford Fiesta Mk1 1.1L with one and a half cylinders out of four working (still managed a ton down the 4 mile long road along the side of RAF Coltishall) or Gavin's latest shitmobile. Ah them were the days. Anyway you enjoy the music.

Sorry 'Normal' service will be resumed as soon as I get the PC sorted out ;)

1 Oct 2006

This was originally supposed to be posted last week but the wonderful world of MikroZoft Windoze Ecks Pee decided otherwise sorry for the delay Upsetter fans ;)

"Willst du, bis der Tod euch scheidet, Treu ihr sein für alle Tage? Nein!Nein!"

You could tell it was pay day by the fact that I snatched my money from the ATM before the bank manager realised what was going on and tried to stop me. I belted to the bus stop with cash in hand like a smack addict with the fruits of some old lady's purse he'd just done over and realising it was half day closing at his dealer's. I trundled off to my favourite shops (records and comics) I smelt and touched the vinyl found several that I wanted and vowed to be back when I had more money. I used to be the sort of person who had inane conversations in record shops until I read Nick Hornby's High Fidelity which featured large amounts of text devoted to sad fucks with no life standing around in a record shop having inane conversations. So anyway there I was having this conversation in the record shop about how great vinyl is and it's much better analizing every facet of an album cover than it is to squint over every minute detail of a cd case and vinyl will rise again etc etc. When some old man walks past the shop doorway (open despite the rain) and does this enormous arse ripping rattle of a fart and we all stop talking to see where the noise is coming from (perhaps it was a motorbike? Maybe even a chainsaw?) The man just looked back as if nothing had happened I don't think he realised he'd been heard as he was wearing a hearing aid. Now me I'm the complete opposite if I have the walkman in and a ffffrap! noise is felt escaping I look about to see if anyone is looking back, (my favourite is the SBD (Silent But Deadly), then when it's released walk away looking disgusted at someone else as if it were them. My father used to do this to my mother in crowded shops in Norfolk and this always reminds me of Come On Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners as it was playing over the tannoy at the time. This would explain why at the Madstock gig in 1992 I was laughing like a pothead watching Cheech & Chong whilst everyone sang along. Or I'm just mental.Today was a bit rough in the fact that I should learn not to go out on pension day as the high street was chockablock with old people just shuffling their way about in all directions and at differing speeds going hither and tither bumping into me and just generally pissing me off. It was as if George A Romero had discovered how to make Piss-o-vison movies and dressed his Zombies in heavy woollen coats from the 1960's "The Day Of The Nearly Dead, certificate 18 coming to a cinema near you now with added wee."Also whilst I was out I went past one of those Greasy spoon cafe where the walls have this patina of lung butter yellow from years of smoke and kitchen grease. Always seem to be full of people who burn effigies of Jamie Oliver and read the Daily Star, fat with tattoos and a fag hanging over the plate (and the men look rough too). Now I've known a few veggies in my time and if they want to do that it's fine I'm just of the opinion that if we were meant to be vegetarian they wouldn't make bacon sandwiches taste so nice. Anyway the faded and yellowed photo in the window with the 'Veggie breakfast' had eggs on it I thought they weren't vegetables? I know vegans don't eat anything from or of an animal (or as my landlord described them Food Nazis).. Mind you this was also at the place that had a sign that read "Early Bird breakfasts - Served til late." So no candidates for MENSA there then? I've just bought a new tv card for my PC so expect some more video rips in the next few weeks. Also you may have noticed the addition of a couple of new bookmarks over there to the right of the picture? These are Rapidshare folders which will contain the things I don't want to put on the main page like comics and pronography. Incidentally I posted the Paris Hilton 'Home Movie' on a German site that popped up on a pop up the other day and there are now 252 German teenage boys with slightly worse eyesight than they had last week because of me. But at least I gained several hundred more Rapidshare points in the process. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to buy shares in Specsavers and Kleenex.
